Gold/Silver in an IRA

Hello, do you know if you can rollover gold and silver positions in an IRA to a 403B held at another custodian or will the client need to sell the positions first in the IRA and then buy them back once the cash has been rolled over? Thank you.

If the positions are ETFs or stocks, the plan would have to include a brokerage option to hold those positions and that would be rare for 403b plans. In other forms, you would need to sell the IRA positions unless they were precious metals funds that just happened to be an identical investment option in the 403b. That is also unlikely, but might at least ask the 403b sponsor what they offer. The 403b plan may not even offer a surrogate for your current positions.
