QCD
I have a client that would like to do a QCD from her RMD with a payment made directly to a private Christian school with the further direction to be used for her grandchild’s tuition . Based on your October newsletter, I am thinking she cannot , because there is a “benefit back to her”- perhaps not a mug or a tote bag, but more importantly tuition. Please clarify.

Not only would this not qualify as a QCD, it also would not qualify as an itemized charitable deduction. This includes characterization where a donation to a scholarship fund funneled the funds for the benefit of a particular student.
