403b – 78 year old
I have a client who is 78 and retired on 01/03/25. He has a 403b and a brokerage link account, which is an extension of his 403.
It states RMDs must begin the year he retires, but does he have an option of deferring the RMD until 03/31/2026 and then end up taking two distributions next year?

Yes, he has that option.
But to defer the 2025 RMD he cannot do a direct rollover to an IRA in 2025 as that would require that the RMD be completed first.
