2019 QCDs for a religious organization / church and 501c3 designation
Hello All –
Client wishes to do a QCD from IRA RMD for 2019 and send to his local church. I’m reading conflicting information online on whether the church MUST be a 501c3 in order to qualify for a QCD, or is it exempted from the 501c3 rules, but still eligible for a QCD because it is a religious organization.
Has anyone run into this and can clarify for our benefit?
Thanks so much!

The tax code (Sec 408(c)(8)(b) indicates that a QCD can be made to any organization shown in Sec 170(b)(1)(A). There is no stated limitation to 501(c)(3) organizations with respect to churches in 170(b)(1)(A).
