With respect to minimum distributions (RMDs), the 2 methods are life expectancy and the 5 year rule. Of course, distributions can always be accelerated and therefore there is no annual maximum for distributions. A beneficiary may inherit an annuitized IRA, but the beneficiary cannot purchase their own IRA annuity post death.
