RMD Taken Jan 31st…CARES Rollover??
My previously scheduled automatic 2020 RMD from my Fidelity IRA was deposited to my Joint account on Friday, Jan. 31st. I rolled the RMD back into my IRA on April 3rd. I was not aware of this rule at the time but the CARES act rollover relief does not apply to RMDs taken in January 2020 and Fidelity did not warn me of this fact. However if it is true that the “count” does not start until the next day in my case Feb. 1 then would I not be covered by the rollover relief and eligible for the rollover?
Unfortunately I was unaware of the January prohibition for rollovers and rolled my RMD back. (no warning from Fidelity)…What do I do now to correct this situation? Seems that I could be liable for a large tax penalty for the disallowed rollover. Re execute the RMD? My tax advisor has no clue as these are uncharted waters. All of the IRS Help Centers are closed. Thanks in advance for responses and ideas.

This is a duplicate post. Please post to the original thread, and two responses and a question are already posted there. Thanks.
