QCD check mailed to client or charity directly?

What are the pros and cons of having a QCD check mailed to a client and having the client mail the check to charity themselves versus having the check go directly to the charity?

Both are valid QCDs, but having the client deliver the QCD to the charity allows the client to request the required timely acknowledgement be promptly provided by the charity.  Client  will also know that the check was actually issued, and about when the charity received it. The advantage is better client control of the process. A possible disadvantage might be adding additional time from the check issue to the date the charity receives the check, and that is only critical for late December distributions.  Generally, QCDs should be ordered prior to December to assure timely delivery.
