Inherited IRA where stretch payments were being taken
We need to know how to handle the widow’s payments please…
Husband had inherited an IRA from his father in 2013. The father had been taking RMD for years. Now the son (widow’s husband), who passed away in May, was taking stretch RMD payments. What are the widow’s payment options? Does she get to stretch, 10 years, something else? As always, thank you!!!!

The widow will be subject to a new 10 year rule. She will have to complete her husband’s 2021 beneficiary RMD if he did not complete it, then she will have no annual RMDs of her own, but must drain the account by 12/31/2031.
