Recent 401(k) Pre-Tax Distribution to Roth IRA

A couple of weeks ago, I requested a distribution of pre-tax funds from my employer’s 401(k) to my Vanguard Roth IRA. The confirmation statement from the 401(k) administrator reflected the full amount requested was distributed and no federal or state taxes were withheld. I recognize I’ll be paying federal taxes for this Roth IRA conversion but wanted to confirm from the statement that listed Distribution Code “G” is the correct code that I should expect when I receive the 1099-R next year.

Yes, code G is correct. Sometimes these qualified rollover contributions to your Roth IRA are reported without entering the proper taxable amount in Box 2a, so be sure the correct taxable amount is shown in 2a.

Thanks for the confirmation.
