Roth conversion from group bene account
Can a beneficiary TSA account be converted to a Roth IRA, or does the bene TSA first have to go into an IRA and then converted to a Roth? The beneficiary is the spouse, and the data of death pre-secure act.
thank you

The surviving spouse can either do a direct rollover to her Roth IRA or a direct rollover to an owned TIRA from which any amount can be converted to her Roth IRA. The Secure Act does not affect these options. Might have been preferable to complete a conversion in the year of death which is the final year to file jointly, unless of course the surviving spouse has remarried. Single tax rates are higher, so she might not want to convert the entire inherited TSP.
