Final RMD & subsequent RMD
Client age 73, passed away this year. He had taken IRA distributions for $7,000 of his $12,000. His wife, age 68, is sole beneficiary.
She plans to move the IRA account into her name, completing the remaining RMD to fulfill his RMD for 2022.
My question then is to confirm, she then will not be RMD age herself until she turns age 72 and with these funds in her own IRA and treated as though they have always been there, she would not be required to take distributions until her own RMD would begin?
Thanks
Matt

Yes, that is correct. She will have no additional RMDs until age 72. However, if client turned 72 in 2021 and then passed prior to 4/1/2022 (before his RBD), that wife will not have to complete what would have been his RMD. This depends on exactly when he reached 72 and his DOD.
