Inherited IRA QCD from trust
My sister-in-law’s trust is the beneficiary of her traditional IRA and she was 74 when she died. My husband is the trustee of her trust and is 64 years old. Can a QCD be made from her traditional IRA since she met the age requirement at the time of death and technically my husband is not the beneficiary of the IRA, the trust is.
Thank you.

No, a QCD can only be done from an owned IRA or an inherited IRA of an individual. A trust cannot execute a QCD, and even if your husband has the authority to distribute the IRA out of the trust to himself as the beneficiary he could not do a QCD until age 70.5.

Can the money still be donated to the non-profit from the IRA while it’s in the trust, just not as a QCD? We’re looking for the best option to make the donation and not be personally liable for the taxes on the withdrawl if it’s donated from the inherited IRA. Thank you.
