My friends boss’s company just got bought for $5,000,000. The boss and his wife wrote my friend a 50k check since they are friends and she also works for him. My friend is married and they make 125k a year. Does my friend have to report this 50k gift on her taxes?

I know I can give my neighbor 17k and neither one of us has to report it, correct?
