Inheriting an inherited IRA
What are the beneficiary rules for a non-spouse/non-eligible designated beneficiary who inherited an already inherited IRA?
The original IRA owner passed away before 12/31/2019 after their required beginning date. The first person to inherit the IRA passed away in 2024 before their required beginning date.

The successor beneficiary becomes subject to the 10 year rule, but most also continue the RMD schedule of the designated beneficiary in years 1-9. The age of the successor beneficiary is irrelevant.
Note: A beneficiary does not have an RBD, only owners do.
