Social Security for a Spouse
I have two questions. I have a client who will turn 62 in November and is divorced (was married for 19 years). Her ex is 69 & will be starting his benefits shortly. If she uses her own benefit, she will receive $1909/month. His benefit will be $3900/month.
- She was told she can claim half of his and the benefit would be $1950. I thought that would be reduced since she is starting early. Who is right?
- If she starts early and her benefit was more than 50% of his and down the road he died, would she get his full benefit at that time or would it be reduced since she started early?

Sorry, this site does not address SS benefits.
