Spousal IRA for non-US citizen
I have a client who is considering the opportunity to complete a “back door” Roth IRA for a non-US citizen spouse. The spouse has a tax id, but no earnings. They do plan to file MFJ. Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts or considerations are appreciated.

The 1099R and 5498 instructions include reference to an ITIN, so it appears possible. That said, a particular IRA custodian may require a SSN to accept contributions.
