Spousal Roth IRA RMD’s
Hello all – I have a married couple where the husband passed away May of 2020 at age 73. He owned a Roth IRA with the spouse as primary beneficiary. He had never taken any distributions from this account.
The beneficiary elected contract continuance. The Roth IRA is in the spouse’s name with all ownership rights.
Does surviving spouse need to be taking annual RMD’s ?
Thanks

In the case of an inherited Roth IRA being transferred into the spouse’s own Roth IRA, the spouse is treated as owner, not as beneficiary. As owner, there are no RMDs required to be made from a Roth IRA.
