Many Not Saving Enough; Roth IRAs Great for College
By Jared Trexler
Two information-packed articles on “saving” came out today, and they are very beneficial to your retirement planning and IRA planning in general.
The first is titled “Roth IRA: A Great Way to Save for College,” written by Lynn O’Shaughnessy, our guest speaker at an Elite IRA Advisor Group Workshop back in the spring of 2009.
O’Shaughnessy writes: “If you’re saving for college, I bet you haven’t tucked any money away in a Roth IRA. And that’s a shame because a Roth IRA is a great savings vehicle for college.” The article then details eight key points you need to know about using a Roth IRA to pay for college. And with the skyrocketing price of college these days, these points are invaluable for your financial situation and paying college tuition.”

The other article that peaked interest was by Steven Greenhouse of the New York Times News Service. In the article titled, “Many not saving enough for golden years,” Greenhouse writes about the stark economic reality that the next bill is higher up on the priority meter than saving for retirement.
Greenhouse writes: “…for the baby boomers themselves, retirement may not seem as rosy as it once did. This year, the first of the nation’s 79 million baby boomers turn 65, and while millions dream of comfortable retirements, perhaps in Boca Raton, Florida or Palm Springs, California, many will discover they will have a tough time in retirement.”
